TRON: Legacy - Private Commission.. by MarkRaats
TRON: Legacy - Private Commission..

A wonderful private commission for a top man and one that I enjoyed doing immensely. Not a franchise I know well but in conceptualising it, I knew that I wanted a piece of art that stood as art in its own right rather than just simply doing another movie poster piece - I hope that I was successful.

Gouache paint and Prismacolor pencils on board.

As always, my sincerest apologies if I am unable to respond to and comments posted - its simply due to a lack of time.

Star Wars The Force Awakens Poster Comp....

So, the way I see it The Force Awakens is really a Han Solo and Chewie movie that also stars Rey and Finn.

Poster comp - Prismacolor pencils and Copics on acid-free paper ~ 8 x 11 inches. This version has been enhanced in Photoshop to bring out the colors and to add the text...

Lets not forget that all next month's excitement started a Long, long time ago... (1977 to be exact) with a farm boy...!

Breaking in the new studio: Luke Skywalker Gouache paint and Prismacolor Pencils on board - 17 x 23 inches.

Thanks very much for looking and as always, my sincerest apologies that I am no longer able to respond to most of the comments. Available time is my main problem.

Chewie, we're home! by MarkRaats
Chewie, we're home!

I have steered well clear of doing any art for TFA because there is SO much of it around and also with the studio move, I was off-line for so long. This private commission gave me an opportunity to indulge and what better way than with the legendary Harrison Ford as Han Solo..

Copic Markers and Prismacolor pencils on paper 8 x 11 inches

As always my sincerest apologies that I am no longer able to respond to most of the comments. Available time is my main problem.

Hi Mark.
The dentist that killed cecil the lion lived within 30 miles of me when i was going to college in college. It looks like he is feeling remorseful for his actions. Which just happened after the bad publicity tidal wave crashed down on him.  I just hope some good comes out of this, but more likely than not people will forget about it within 2 weeks.

Always nice to hear from you --

I suspect he's remorseful because he suddenly found out that posting pics of dead animals on FB is probably not the best idea. In fairness to him, he was part of a group of people and ALL of them should be charged - not only the dentist. That said, he's an experienced hunter and he would have seen that they were baiting the lion out of the park. He also opted to shoot and badly wound it with a bow and arrow which resulted in the injured cat only being found 40 hours later (its reported) and killed with a rifle. ALL of the above point directly back at the hunter so I don't buy his remorse for a second - after all, he's been charged and found guilty of questionable hunting practices in the US before.

Unfortunately this becomes deeply personal for me because - as you might have read on my FB feed - my sister spent the whole of yesterday forced to deal with an adult  female Rhino that was slaughtered on her game farm and to make matters worse, the Rhino was pregnant so they lost two in a single senseless blow.

Can good come out of this?? I don't know but sadly I do have to agree with you that in two weeks people will probably forget..

Cheers again. I hope you're exceedingly well!

This subject reminds me of a little history lesson from america during the 19th century. People used to ride the train out west and kill buffalo by the thousands for sport and leave the dead animal to rot. During that era the white man labeled the native americans as "savages". How ironic is that.
Always a pleasure talking with you, even thought on such an ugly subject.

P.S. : If you need a good laugh I attempted to recreate your superman pencil illustration on facebook. It is under the name mitch hanke.
